Anyone who gets 'so what exactly do you do?' more than once a week.positioningmessagingclarity
I explain my business badly. Help me fix it. What I do today, in my own words: <paste your current pitch, homepage text or headline> Who my best customers are: <describe two real customers> What they say when they recommend me: <quotes if you have them> What I'm often confused with: <what people wrongly assume> Do this: 1. Tell me, bluntly, what is unclear in my current explanation and why a stranger would not get it. 2. Write 5 one-line versions of what I do, each using this shape: "I help <who> do <what> so that <result>", with concrete nouns and no adjectives like innovative or seamless. 3. For each: who would immediately self-select in, and who would correctly self-select out. 4. Pick the strongest, then write a 3-sentence version for a website and a 1-sentence version for saying out loud at an event. 5. List the words in my original that should never appear again, and why.
Replace every <placeholder> with your own details before you send it.
How to use it
- 1Paste your current homepage or LinkedIn headline. The model needs the 'before'.
- 2Test the winner on three real people. If they can repeat it back, keep it.
- 3Resist the clever version. The clear version sells.
