Declutter one room without losing a weekend
A sequence of 20-minute sessions, decisions made in advance, and a rule for the maybe pile.
The room you close the door on.homeorganisationroutine
Help me declutter one room in short sessions. The room and what's in it: <describe honestly, including the embarrassing categories> Why it got this way: <one line> Time I can give: <minutes per session, sessions per week> What the room is for once it's done: <the function> Things I know I'm keeping no matter what: <list> Where "out" things can go: <donate, sell, recycle, bin, someone specific> Produce: 1. The sequence: sessions of my length, each with one zone or category, ordered so the first session is the easiest visible win. 2. Decision rules, written in advance, for the categories I listed: keep if…, out if…, so I'm not deciding item by item. 3. The maybe box rule: what goes in it, where it lives, and the date I open it (and what happens if I haven't needed anything from it). 4. For each session: what to have ready (bags, boxes, labels), and what to do with the "out" pile before I stop. 5. What NOT to do: the three ways this usually derails (sentimental spirals, organising instead of removing, buying storage first). 6. The finish line: how I'll know the room is done, and the five-minute weekly habit that keeps it that way. Practical and kind. No minimalism lecture.

How to use it
- 1Describe what's actually in there. 'Stuff' gets you a generic plan; 'boxes of old cables and kids' art' gets a real one.
- 2Set a timer for each session and stop when it rings. Stopping is what makes you come back.
- 3Decide where the 'out' pile goes before you start. A bag by the door is not a decision.
